Police are saying a severed cat’s head left on the doorstep of a northeast home may be an act of intimidation.
A CPS Arson Unit detective who was conducting a follow-up interview regarding a suspicious fire on the 7100 block of Temple Drive made the disturbing discovery Monday morning.
“It was not a random act,” said Det. Scott Sampson.
The home where the head was found belongs to potential witnesses in an August fire.
Police say they have some persons of interest in both the cat and fire cases and believe they are related.
Police are worried the situation may escalate.
“We have grave concerns. Killing and maiming small animals are traits of a sociopath,” said Sampson.
The owners of the cat live nearby and were notified of the discovery.
“Obviously the owners were very distraught,” said Sampson.
The three-year-old cat named Bell was identified by a tattoo inside its ear and had been missing for about two days prior to the discovery of the head.
It is not known how long the head was there or whether the animal was dead before it was decapitated.
