Sackville-Eastern Shore MP Peter Stoffer is calling on the Harper government to ensure its soon-to-be-released national shipbuilding strategy invests in Canadian-made vessels.

“Lets hope that this new strategy moves Canada’s shipbuilding industry forward,” Stoffer, the NDP deputy shipbuilding critic, said in a release.

Stoffer is also calling on the Conservative government to make sure the strategy its expected to release in the next couple of weeks has support of all industry and labour stakeholders.

“Close to $40 billion may be spent on new ships in the next 20 years. We must ensure that this money will be used to build vessels in Canada and to bring our regional shipyards up to capacity,” Stoffer said in the release.
