IronMamas run, walk for infant nutrition

Moms of all shapes and sizes were at Whitemud Park yesterday morning to take part in the first annual IronMama run and walk.

“I started a triathlon group for moms, and this year is the first five (kilometre) event,” said Christine Kasturi, the event’s organizer.

The $45 entry fee went towards Action Against Hunger, a Canadian organization that sends volunteers to Uganda to implement nutrition programs for infants, Kasturi explained.

“We’re really trying to connect nutrition and moms,” she said, noting that a lot of the participants in the event brought their strollers along.

Kasturi, who has a triathlon background herself, said she knows the benefit of friendly competition, noting that the event is about connecting moms in “a different way that’s catered to performance instead of necessarily about how your body looks all the time.”
