‘It isn’t like him to up and vanish’

Mitchel Jerome Bellemore, 17, has been missing since Friday night, and police are asking for the public’s help in finding the Colby Village teen.
The family of the Auburn Drive High School student called RCMP Saturday night after the boy had been missing since 10:30 p.m. Friday.
They said he has no history of running away or not keeping in contact with his family.
One of the teen’s friends was concerned yesterday about Mitchel’s whereabouts.
“He’s just a normal kid and it isn’t like him to up and vanish,” said Aaron Craig in an email.
On Sunday morning, more than 50 volunteers from Halifax Regional Search and Rescue scoured an area near MacDonald Beach in Eastern Passage that Bellemore was known to frequent.
“It was just a precautionary search because we’re not sure if he was in there or not or if that’s where he was,” said Cpl. Joe Taplin with the RCMP.
They called off the search Sunday night because, Taplin said, there was no concrete evidence the boy was ever in the area.
The boy was last seen at a home on Atholea Drive in Cole Harbour wearing a camouflage jacket with a hood, jeans and black Nike sneakers.
He’s about 5’11”, 174 lbs and has some sparse facial hair.
Taplin said RCMP officers continued to interview the teen’s friends and family yesterday “trying to trace his tracks of possibly where he might be.”
