The Italian Market has many tempting lunch options, including sandwiches, pastas and salads that you can check out in the display counter where you place your order.
Its deli sandwiches are a notch above any in town, so I order the famous Vesuvius. Every bite is a hot eruption of flavour as the sandwich features Calabrese salami, Provolone cheese, Dijon mustard, and black olive paste on grilled foccacia. I ask for hot peppers instead of the dill pickle. Wow — now this is a sandwich. My side bean salad is a tasty array of beans and bits of pepper and red onion.
My friend orders the Parmesan Chicken, one chicken breast with a light crusty topping. The flavour is nice but it’s a tad dry. Her salad, however, is excellent. It’s a colourful mix of sweet peppers, asparagus and red onion.
It’s a bustling and bright café, a fine choice for lunch.
