J.K. Rowling writing new book for adults

Now that Harry Potter is all grown up, author J.K. Rowling is setting her sites on a more mature readership.

The internationally famed British writer is working on a new book for adults, according to Book Trade. It will be published by Little, Brown Book Group and Little, Brown and Company.

The subject matter, though, is still a mystery. Don’t expect a magical fantasy for grown ups — Rowling says her next venture will be unique from her past work.

“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world,” Rowling said. “The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

So what is this new territory that Rowling will explore? For those of us who have read all seven “Harry Potter” books as adults but are a little shy about admitting it when our Paulo Coelho-reading friends confront us, we can’t wait to find out!
