Liberal justice critic Michel Samson said while he welcomes the government’s decision to provide all 440 prison guards in the province with stab-proof vests, he doesn’t think the NDP is addressing the root cause of prison violence.
“As long as we’re going to continue to have double-bunking at the Burnside facility, you’re going to continue to see major problems,” he said yesterday.
Samson said the government’s decision to axe a new prison facility in Springhill means the province will not have the infrastructure to stop double-bunking for at least two years.
