Janet Jackson to start tour in Vancouver

The Grammy and Academy Award-winning pop star announced yesterday her first tour in seven years is kicking off in Vancouver.

Jackson, 42, made the surprise announcement on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

“I can’t wait,” she said to DeGeneres, adding that she’s set up a phone number for fans to call and let her know what songs they’d like to hear.

“I would love to hear a lot of feedback from you guys,” she told the audience. “What old song you’d love to hear performed or what new song off Discipline you’d like to hear.”

The Rock Witchu tour will support her last two albums, the 2006 CD 20 Y.O. and Discipline, which was released in February.

Jackson has been performing for more 30 years and grew up in the shadow of her famous older brothers, the Jackson Five.

She gained infamy in an alleged wardrobe malfunction — known as “nipplegate” — when Justin Timberlake tore open her top while performing in the halftime show at Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Both Timberlake and Jackson later apologized and “nipplegate” became the most-searched video in Internet history.

>> Tickets for the Rock Witchu tour go on sale June 7.
