Jean thanks Vancouver for helping Haiti

Vancouver should be commended for helping Haiti at the same time it works to help its own citizens in need, Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean said yesterday at the city’s hospitality house.

It has been almost a month since Jean’s homeland was ravaged by an earthquake that killed more than 230,000 people, including her daughter’s godmother.

She thanked Vancouver for auctioning off 3,000 Olympic street banners to raise money for Haiti. UNICEF predicts the project will raise as much as $400,000.
