Almost 600 Edmontonians have signed an online petition saying they don’t want cheerleaders at Edmonton Oilers hockey games.
Since an online petition was launched on Friday, 589 people have signed.
The Oilers will be the first Canadian NHL team to launch a cheer team, joining 23 other American NHL clubs.
Women interested in joining the cheerleading team are invited to attend an information session on Tuesday evening. Auditions follow at the end of the month.
