Jets recall Gagnon, Machacek from AHL

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets recalled forwards Aaron Gagnon and Spencer Machacek from the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League on Monday.

Gagnon made his debut with the Jets on Tuesday against the New York Rangers. In 35 games with the IceCaps this season, the 26-year-old has 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) and eight penalty minutes.

The Quesnel, B.C., native has played in 22 career NHL games with Dallas and Winnipeg, earning two assists. He was originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the eighth round, 240th overall, in the 2004 draft.

Machacek, 23, has played in 44 games with the IceCaps this season, scoring 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) and 40 penalty minutes. The Lethbridge, Alta., native has played in 12 career NHL games with the Atlanta Thrashers. He was originally drafted by Atlanta in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2007 draft.

In another move Monday, the Jets traded forward Akim Aliu to the Calgary Flames for defenceman John Negrin.

Aliu had four goals and one assist in 13 games with St. John’s this season.

Negrin, meanwhile, had one assist in 26 games with the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat.
