HAMILTON, Ont. - A Hamilton man convicted of two counts of
first-degree murder for infecting women with HIV is due back in court
today.

Johnson Aziga is scheduled to appear in a Hamilton court to have a date set for a psychiatric assessment.

In
April, a jury found the 52-year-old man guilty on the murder counts for
infecting two women to whom he did not disclose his status.

Aziga
was believed to be the first person in Canada convicted of murder for
lethally infecting partners with the virus that causes AIDS.

He was also found guilty of 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count of attempted aggravated sexual assault.

At
trial, the defence argued Aziga - who was arrested in August 2003 - was
depressed and did not have the state of mind to deliberately endanger
his sexual partners.
