It’s never easy to follow a music legend like Fred Eaglesmith but Kirsten Jones is certainly up to the challenge.

The Toronto-based alt-country singer/songwriter will be taking the same stage that Eaglesmith did at Blackjacks Roadhouse in Nisku just over a month ago.

“Oh my God, I didn’t know that,” said the Virginia-born singer, upon hearing the news.

“I’m really excited about that one, it sounds like a lot of fun.”

Jones has been out this way before and said there’s something about Wild Rose Country that makes playing here special.

“(Touring in Alberta) is great because people don’t seem to distinguish too much between country-alt and country-folkie stuff, they seem to like it all.”

Jones said she’s a big fan of Edmonton radio station CKUA and said people have discovered her music there and come out to her shows when she’s in town because of it.

“It’s a unique Albertan thing,” she said.

Jones will be at Blackjacks Roadhouse on Sept. 17. Tickets are available at
