Judge restores child abuse conviction

A Nova Scotia man who sexually abused his stepdaughter for a number of years, identified only as J.H.S, learned yesterday the Supreme Court of Canada has restored his conviction.

The Court of Appeal set aside the jury’s original conviction and ordered a new trial saying the trial judge didn’t sufficiently explain reasonable doubt as it applies to credibility.

Justice Ian Binnie rejected that finding, set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal and restored the conviction.
