Erik Karlsson, the Ottawa Senators’ first-round pick in the 2008 entry draft, is heading down to Bingo.

The club announced yesterday that the 19-year-old Swedish defenceman would be going to the AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

Karlsson spent last season with the Frolunda HC Indians of the Swedish Elite League, recording five goals, five assists and 10 penalty minutes in 45 games, adding a goal and two assists in 11 playoff games.

Karlsson won a silver medal with the Swedish junior team at last year’s World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa. He was selected the tournament’s best defenceman and named to the all-star team.
