Kid to Rock Common

The other half of Halifax Rocks was announced yesterday and the headliner for the Friday, July 23, show is Kid Rock.

The Detroit singer, who mixes blues-rock, funk, metal, rap and country, will take to the stage on the Halifax Common.

Joining him in the lineup are Counting Crows, Daughtry, Tonic, Jimmy Swift and the Stanfields.

Promoters already named three acts for the Saturday, July 24, show: Black Eyed Peas; Weezer; and Classified. Yesterday they added three more: Hot Hot Heat; Rich Aucoin; and Chad Hatcher.

Harold MacKay with Power Promotions apologized to reporters yesterday for the delay in announcing complete details of the summer concert. He said it was difficult to line up acts, and he wouldn’t say who turned him down.

“We’re happy with our lineup,” he said. “Some that we were chasing this year we’re going to keep chasing next year.”

As promised, they’re delivering an act that hasn’t played Halifax before, but Kid Rock was supposed to play the Metro Centre back in 2004. That show was cancelled due to “scheduling conflicts.”

For the first time, promoters are offering rain insurance to encourage people to buy their tickets early. Anyone who buys their tickets before June 30 will be covered.

“If it rains any more than 20 mm of rain during the hours 7 to 10 p.m. — the headline performers — they have two options: They can stay and watch it and soak up the rain, or they can go home. In either case they get their money back.”

Taxes and service charges will not be refunded.

When asked if this was a move to kick-start sluggish sales, MacKay said no, it was just an idea that happened to come together this year.

“I wish we would have thought of it last year,” he said. “It’s going to be quite labour intensive (if there are refunds) but I’m gambling on the fact that it might not rain.”
