KISS to rock the Common

Dust
off your platform shoes and get out your face paint: KISS is officially coming to Halifax.

“It’ll
be a big, big show by a band that’s been putting it together longer and better than almost anyone in the field,” said Steve Kokic, a Halifax KISS fan since 1976. “You still can’t top KISS live.”

It
was announced Tuesday that the glam rockers will play the Halifax Common on July 18, a mere 32 years after their last show at the Forum. Harold MacKay of Power Promotional Events said he’s been chasing the band for two years. They finally inked the deal after KISS representatives were impressed at the Keith Urban concert last year.

“KISS/Halifax Rocks 2009 will be the biggest
event ever held at the Halifax Common,” MacKay said.

Four
yet-to-be named bands will open for the band that loves to rock and roll all night. Promoters are also plotting a Guitar Hero contest, with the winner taking to the main stage in the afternoon of the big show.

July
18 is Tall Ships weekend, so the city looks to be jam-packed.

The 40,000 tickets to the show start at $89 and
go on sale Friday via Ticketatlantic.com, the Atlantic Superstore, the Metro Centre Box Office or 451-1221.
