Koryo’s Korean Barbecue options are a food court standout in eight malls and downtown towers around Calgary.

Two large, thin pieces of barbecue beef ($7.69) require a knife but the savoury sweetness of the soy sauce/garlic/sesame oil marinade makes my taste buds happy. Barbecue chicken is usually dark meat still on the bone.

Each of Koryo’s mains comes with two scoops of rice and two sides.

Like every Koryo regular, I make a beeline for the addictive garlic potatoes. The deep-fried cubes are glazed with a secret sauce (heavy on minced garlic and likely mayo). Once you bite into one of these, you’ll be craving them every week.

Spicy kimchi (marinated cabbage), cold bean sprouts, green beans, or tofu are other side options that keep things interesting.

If you’re in a sandwich mood, try Koryo’s flamers — barbecued beef or chicken on a bun with lettuce and tomatoes.
