Indie records from music stars Feist, Arcade Fire, Joel Plaskett and Patrick Watson are among the nominees for this year's Polaris Prize.
The prize grants $20,000 to Canada’s best album based on creative quality, regardless of musical genre or sales figures.
Also nominated are releases from the Besnard Lakes, The Dears, Julie Doiron, Junior Boys, Miracle Fortress and Chad VanGaalen.
A jury of 11 people will pick the winner at a gala concert on Sept. 24. The shortlist was drawn up from submissions by more than 170 Canadian music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers who submitted their top five picks. Last year the violin-based act Final Fantasy won the inaugural prize.
