Labour ministry investigating after man crushed by stone on worksite

A 26-year-old man is dead after being crushed under stone at an industrial worksite near Manotick.

Paramedics were called to Green Valley Environmental Services at 6107 First Line Rd. 8:28 a.m. on Thursday.

The man had been operating excavator and loading crushed stone into a dump truck, when chunks of solidified material detached from the top of a 12-metre-pile and crushed the cab.

Although the vehicle was surrounded by debris, paramedics did have access to the worker, but declared the man deceased shortly after their arrival.

Firefighters were called in to retrieve the body.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
