Café Aroma Latino
5780 North St.
Halifax 444-8393

Rating: ****
Dinner & drinks for two: $35

Café Aroma Latino provides a fabulous taste of Guatemala, Mexico, Columbia and El Salvador. Everything is fresh and prepared with care. The Daily Soup Special ($5.50) is an excellent spicy chicken and corn broth loaded with flavour from garlic, cilantro and chipotle peppers.

Pupusas ($2.75 each), grilled tortillas stuffed with cheese and pork and served with marinated vegetables and tomato sauce, are delicious as are the Dobladas ($1.75), folded corn flour tortillas filled with either beef or our chosen veggies.

Over top is salsa, cheese, onions and parsley.

We also try Arepas ($2.75), tasty grilled flat cornmeal patties stuffed with stringy white cheese. We sip freshly made juices, Papaya ($2.15 large) and Mango ($2.10 large).

The dessert Quesadilla ($2.50), a pastry made with rice flour, butter, eggs and dried cheese is flavourful, but Mantecade ($2.50), a cake with rum, cinnamon and anise flavour, is even better.

There is beautiful Guatemalan-made furniture and pottery and Latin American art on the walls. Service is efficient and friendly. Long live Café Aroma Latino.
