TEHRAN, Iran – A lawyer for a jailed American journalist in Iran says he’s optimistic there will be a change in her verdict after her brief appeals hearing.
Roxana Saberi’s lawyer says he was allowed to defend his client at her hearing today and expects the court will make its decision in a few days.
Abdolsamad Khorramshahi also says the court atmosphere was “favourable.”
Saberi, a 32-year-old dual Iranian-American national, was convicted last month of spying for the U.S. and sentenced to eight years in prison but the U.S. has called the charges against her baseless.
Iran had promised a review of the case at her appeal.
Earlier today, her father said he wasn’t allowed to enter the courtroom where the closed-door hearing was held.
