Spike Lee has criticized Hollywood’s portrayal of black American soldiers in World War II, Ananova.com reports.
The director aims to redress the balance with a new movie about black Americans fighting the German army in Tuscany. It will be based on the novel Miracle At St. Anna.
“If you look at the history of Hollywood, the black soldiers who fought World War II are totally invisible,” Lee said. “This is the paradox: Black people who were fighting for democracy but at the same time were second-class citizens at home.”
Filming is likely to begin early next year.
