Re: “Must donations to homeless be new?” Letter, Jan. 8 Metro
The letter writer was complaining that a homeless person received a new pair of winter boots and thought the homeless person should only receive used boots.
Here is part of the homelessness problem. Human beings are not valued in this day and age. Whether a person has a home or not, he or she has value and worth and should be treated accordingly. Why is a person who has had a few hard knocks in life any less worthy of a pair of boots than others?

I shake my head and wonder where our humanity has gone. I would put footwear on a person in need, even if they weren’t a person I particularly liked. It’s just … human decency.
Sheesh! I guess common sense and human dignity have gone the way of the dodo bird. It makes me sad.
