Re: Cyclists dinged for sidewalk riding (Metro, May 11)

Winnipeg. As a pedestrian who uses this bridge to walk to work everyday, THANK YOU Winnipeg police. The fact is that cyclists are using this construction as an excuse.

Their use of the sidewalk and disregard for the very clear signs that indicate they should not be cycling on the sidewalk has been a year round problem since I moved here two years ago. Even after the ticketing yesterday, I was almost hit again on the bridge this morning by a cyclist.

Winnipeg. As a pedestrian as well as a cyclist, I think this ticketing deal is baloney! How can the city justify ticketing someone biking on the sidewalk when the cars don’t see us when we’re on the road?

I’ve been sideswiped, knocked over, cut off, rear-ended AND been flipped over a car, all while trying to abide by the rules. I don’t mind one bit if there is a cyclist on the sidewalk, so long as they have the respect to move cautiously through the crowds, or dismount in a large crowd.
