Re: J.A. Zwahlen letter (Jan. 12)

Rawdon, N.S. I noted J.A. Zwahlen’s objections to a cartoon by Michael de Adder. In his objection, Zwahlen suggested de Adder was confusing the anger of the tea party with hatred. I believe it’s Zwahlen who is confused. There is a distinction to be made between dissatisfaction with one’s government and advocating violence as part of one’s dissatisfaction. Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and others have blurred and, some would argue, crossed the line when it comes to offering political comment.

No one is suggesting that the concerns of the tea party aren’t legitimate, however, any suggestion by either side of the political spectrum that violence is an acceptable form of voicing one’s concerns is repugnant and has no place in a democracy. Tea party supporters seem to not recognize or respect that limit.

Tim McDermott, Rawdon, N.S.
