Citing “professional differences,” Halifax Rainmen owner Andre Levingston stepped down as Premier Basketball League president yesterday.
Levingston said he took the job just three months ago with a mandate to “take the league to the next level,” but said he “wasn’t given the opportunity to do those things” by PBL chairman of the board Severko Hrywnak.
“My vision for the league and the vision of (Hrywnak) was different,” Levingston said. “I decided it would be best for me to … let (the league) put in place the vision they think is best.”
There are six teams confirmed for the PBL’s 2011 season and Levingston was attempting to bring new expansion teams on board.
“I didn’t want these teams to be fly-by-night,” Levingston said. “I didn’t want it to be simple to be a part of our league anymore.
“I thought everybody would appreciate and respect those processes … But my views were different than (Hrywnak’s) and it’s his league, he owns it, he can choose to run it any way he wants, so I just chose to step down.”
The Rainmen announced Levingston’s resignation but the PBL had not issued a press release as of last night.
