Liberals should repeal Tory cuts

Re: "MPPs not home for Christmas," Dec. 18:

The $22,000 raise Premier Dalton McGuinty wants to give all MPPs and a $50,000 raise to himself are outrageous. MPPs should get off their (butts) and vote to raise the low minimum hourly wage of $7.25 to $10 immediately.

The McGuinty Liberals should also initiate a crash-affordable housing program, but they refuse to act. Meanwhile, Toronto’s social housing waiting list grows longer everyday — it’s now over 70,000.

The MPPs should also repeal the draconian 21.6 per cent cut to welfare Harris’ Tories inflicted on hundreds of thousands of citizens.

To make up for the Tory cuts in "social assistance," an immediate 40 per cent raise in Ontario’s welfare and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) rates that many of us social justice activists have been advocating during the last two years would also be nice. It’s long overdue.
