New expanded broadband capabilities at Alberta libraries will be linking them to a province-wide network.
Library patrons can collaborate and share books through new inter-library loan programs, access electronic databases, e-books, newspapers and manuals.
Many libraries will offer videoconferencing for people to communicate with other schools, hospitals, community organizations, friends and family abroad.
Funds for enhanced broadband services come from the 39 per cent funding increase to Alberta libraries by the Department of Municipal Affairs and Service Alberta, as well as $500,000 set aside for the expansion.
