The right light fixture can do wonders for a room, whether the space calls for ambient lighting, accenting or spotlighting a specific area.
The right fixture can also do wonders for your appearance, says Royal Lighting’s General Manager Michael Gladstone.
“In the bedroom it can help you tell the difference between whether your pants or skirt are black or dark blue,” said Gladstone. “In the bathroom, if you have the right lighting, it enables you to do a better job shaving or putting on your makeup. A potlight above your head, for example, means your body is creating a shadow, so you are not putting on makeup in the right light.
“You show me five men who have different kinds of lights in their bathroom, I can show you who missed spots (shaving their faces).”
A plain or unappealing fixture can do little for a room — in contrast, an eye-catching chandelier or floor lamp can cast a gorgeous glow, or act as a delightful decorative piece.
“You walk into someone’s house and they have the $11 fixture that the builder put in 14 years ago,” said Gladstone, who has been in the lighting business for 30 years. “Or you have a beautiful piece of crystal lighting, something that really sets the room off. It makes such a difference.”
Keep in mind, Gladstone said, the size of the room and if functional lighting or mood lighting is desired.
