Lighten up with comedy film fest

As the winter continues its miserable stranglehold and the equally bitter economy implodes around us, one needs a sense of humour in order to survive.

Not that there’s anything particularly funny about dealing with the very palpable threat of losing ones livelihood, but sometimes laughter truly is the best medicine for economic woes.

The good folks behind The World of Comedy Film Festival are hoping to cash in on this basic truth when they roll into town today for a three-day engagement at Innis College’s Town Hall Theatre.

The festival, now in its sixth year, collects an uproarious array of international featurettes, many of which are furiously funny and, occasionally, rather risqué. From Canada we get the 32-minute spoof Stan Maynard’s Best Day Ever, which sees a lip-biting shlub get the full makeover treatment at the hands of a so-called lifestylist.
