Lindsey Vonn leads 2nd downhill practice run

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland – Lindsey Vonn took advantage of perfect weather and changes to the Engiadina course to lead a training run Thursday for a World Cup downhill race.

The American was four seconds quicker than her first practice run on Wednesday, finishing in one minute 44.43 seconds.

Fraenzi Aufdenblatten of Switzerland was the only racer within a second of Vonn, trailing by 0.57 seconds. Elena Fanchini of Italy was third-fastest, 1.12 behind Vonn.

Racers disliked Wednesday’s slow conditions, but colder temperatures and tweaks to straighten a top section produced a truer course ahead of Saturday’s downhill.

St. Moritz also hosts two super-combined events: with downhill and slalom legs on Friday, and super-G and slalom on Sunday.
