California vegetable supplier Mann Packing has announced and issued a vegetable recall on some of their package products that are sold at major supermarkets across the country. Some of their packaged vegetable goods may contain harmful bacteria called listeria.

Mann Packing products are sold across the country in major supermarkets including Whole Foods Market, Trader Joes, Wal-Mart and Meijer.

The recall was issued after a single positive result was found in one of their products during a random testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

According to Mann Packing, they are issuing the recall for safety measures.

“Mann Packing is issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution,” a representative said in a statement. “To date, public health officials have not reported any illnesses associated with these products.”

Items that could be affected are listed as having “best if used by” October 11 to October 23 as the expiration date.

Although there aren’t any reported illnesses related to Mann Packing products supermarkets carrying the brand are taking precautionary measures by pulling items from their shelves.

What is Listeria?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, listeria is a serious infection caused by eating food that has been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.  Symptoms of listeria include fever and diarrhea just like other forms of food poisoning. Other symptoms may include severe headaches, stiffness and abdominal pains.
