LiveWorkPlay is hosting a one-day family conference called A Question of Safety, to discuss the issues surrounding people with intellectual disabilities, on Saturday.
As more people with intellectual disabilities are living on their own in Ottawa, it can present new challenges for public services, said Keenan Wellar, co-founder and CEO of LiveWorkPlay, the Ottawa affiliate of Community Living Ontario.
When alone in public, many people with developmental disabilities are told not to speak with strangers, but Wellar said this is not always the best policy, since many times strangers are the only ones who can help.
