Loblaw is closing a distribution centre in Lakeside where they employ 115 people.
It will shut down on Oct. 9.
“It really is about simplifying our distribution network and we need to reduce excess capacity that’s in the Atlantic region,” said company spokeswoman Julija Hunter.
There are two distribution centres in Lakeside and Loblaw is closing the smaller one on Dominion Crescent.
“This was a difficult decision. This is not a move that is a reflection of the management team or our colleagues. We very much appreciate and thank our colleagues for their service,” Hunter said.
She added there will be no changes to the other distribution centre in Lakeside.
The company is also looking into providing alternative employment within the company for those workers who will be laid off.
