Loblaws kicks in paid plastic bag program on Earth Day

Starting on Earth Day, not bringing your own bag to Ottawa Loblaw stores will cost you.

The company officially launches their National Plastic Shopping Bag Reduction Program on April 22.

The company has partnered with WWF Canada with the goal to divert 1 billion shopping bags from landfills by the end of 2009.

Loblaw stores from coast to coast will no longer be providing complimentary plastic shopping bags to customers and will charge five cents per bag to encourage shoppers to take part in the environmental initiative.
