Calgarian journalist Amber Bowerman — whose own dreams were cut short last year in a domestic homicide — is living on through her legacy.

The Amber Webb-Bowerman Memorial Foundation has finalized its first award: the $750 Student Writing Award through Western Magazine Awards.

The recipient will exemplify the same passion and vigour that Bowerman portrayed in her own writing.

“Amber was an inspiration in our lives and we hope that through the foundation she continues to inspire people,” said Chris Bowerman, Amber’s husband and president of the AWBMF.

The foundation will finalize another five awards this week.

Colleen Seto, secretary of the foundation and close friend of Bowerman, said the woman genuinely wanted to help others excel.
