Bernie Sanders rallies in Somerville, Cambridge

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders was in Somerville on Monday to rally with local candidates running for city council, the school board and the board of aldermen.

His visit to Once, which drew hundreds of spectators, was a show of support for candidates running across the country next month who have been endorsed by Our Revolution, a spin-off of Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.

Our Revolution has three goals, according to its website: “Our Revolution has three intertwined goals: to revitalize American democracy, empower progressive leaders and elevate the political consciousness.”

On Sunday, Sanders told New Hampshire’s Concord Monitor that he will run for re-election in 2018.

“I am an independent, and I have always run in Vermont as an independent, while I caucus with the Democrats in the United States Senate,” Sanders said. “That’s what I’ve been doing for a long time and that’s what I’ll continue to do.”
