Bostonians stepped out under skies Wednesday to witness the 30th annual Return of the Swans to the Boston Public Garden.
Mayor Marty Walsh and Boston Parks Commissioner Chris Cook welcomed the famous local waterfowl back after wintering at the Franklin Park Zoo. The swans, named Romeo and Juliet, will live in the Public Garden through the end of summer before being returned to zoo life. The celebration began with a traditional parade from the “Make Way for Ducklings” statue to the lagoon.
This year’s swan fanfare included a brass band, face painters, a reading of “Make Way for Ducklings” led by the Boston Park Rangers, and children’s activities.
