Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the availability of $3 million in state funds to help all municipalities purchase zero-emission vehicles.
In addition to zero-emission vehicles, the money will be used to help install related infrastructure.
The State Department of Environmental Conservation and New York’s Environmental Protection Fund will be offering grants and rebates to help areas get the zero-emissions vehicles.
Governor Cuomo said in a press release that, “New York is making tremendous strides in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from all sectors by transitioning to cleaner power sources.”
Additionally, he added, “This funding will help more communities achieve a greener future by supporting transportation that is better for the environment and their budgets.”
By the addition and expansion of the new clean transportation, it will help position New York as the national leader for zero-emission vehicles. New York has already started the process to “Greenify” the state.
The $3 million will be divided among the cost of the vehicles rebate will compensate for $500,000 of the $3 million.
Whereas the majority of the funds, the 2.5 million will go towards, ZEV Infrastructure, which will be to install hydrogen filling station components and electric vehicle supply equipment to keep the zero-emission vehicles going.
By the end of 2021, Gov. Cuomo hopes to have at least 10,00 ZEV charging stations built. By 2025, the goal is to have 800,000 stations.
