‘Cat Friday:’ The ASPCA’s adoption deal you can’t refuse

We all know that Black Friday is the day people shop until they drop, but for those looking to bring a feline friend home for the holidays, the ASPCA might have a deal you can’t refuse.

For the seventh year in a row, the day after Thanksgiving is the ASPCA’s “Cat Friday,” and as a partnership with Subaru Share the Love, the nonprofit will waive adoption fees for the nearly 100 available cats and kittens at its Adoption Center on the Upper East Side.

Adoption fees are normally $125 for kittens and $75 for cats.

“On Black Friday, everyone is out to land a deal, and the ASPCA believes that the best deal of all is the joy of a new pet,” said Gail Buchwald, senior vice president of the ASPCA Adoption Center. “This year, we encourage people to skip the long lines and department stores, and instead bring home a new best friend who will give you a lifetime of love. The happiness that comes from giving a home to an animal is a gift that keeps on giving for years to come.”

The Cat Friday adoption event kicks off at 11 a.m. at the center at 424 E. 92nd St. (between 1st and York Avenues) and runs until 7 p.m. The adoptable cats and kittens have been spayed and neutered and are up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Adopters will receive a free collar and ID tag, as well as a cardboard carrier to get their new furkid home safe and sound. Those New Yorkers who take home a cat 1-year-old or older will receive a free hard carrier while supplies last.

To adopt, you must be 21 or older and come to the ASPCA’s Cat Friday adoption event with a government-issued photo ID and a separate proof of address.
