Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run at LaGuardia: Officials

A 36-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he rode his bicycle at LaGuardia Airport Monday night, officials said.

A 36-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver as he rode his bicycle at LaGuardia Airport Monday night, officials said.

The man was an employee of Swissport International, an airport ground and cargo company, and was struck by a vehicle on Marine Terminal Road and Runway Drive on the grounds of LaGuardia around 7:20 p.m., the New York Post reported.

The cyclist was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

Port Authority police are searching the surrounding area for security footage that may have captured the hit-and-run, sources told the Post. An abandoned vehicle was found in the vicinity, but it is unknown if it was the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

LaGuardia Airport said in a tweet Monday night that Runway Drive was closed “until further notice” as authorities continue their investigation, adding that for-high vehicle pickups are in front of Terminal B.

As of 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, the airport did not say that the road has reopened.
