Another person has died after being struck by a train in a subway station, this time in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.
According to CBS2, the MTA stated two people were struck during the same incident around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The tragedy occurred above ground near the intersection of East 16th St. and Avenue S, near the Kelly Park Playground.
Both people were struck by an oncoming Q train, with one of the unidentified victims being pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where their condition was not immediately known.
A police investigation temporarily disrupted the Q line, but service was eventually restored to its normal capacity.
This tragedy is just the latest in an ongoing series of deaths caused by train strikes in the subway system.
Three weeks ago, two drunk women fell onto the tracks at the Broadway Junction station in Brooklyn. Both wound up pinned under a train, with one surviving and one being pronounced dead at the scene.
There were several instances of ‘subway surfing’ in November, including one instance where a teenager in Queens lost their life.
In perhaps the most harrowing and gripping recent incident, a 2-year-old child slipped off the platform at Fulton St. after separating from his mother, right during the rush hour commute two weeks ago. After a considerable rescue effort documented live on the Citizen App, the toddler tragically succumbed to his injuries and passed.
This wasn’t even the only tragic incident to occur in Brooklyn this week, as the MTA tweeted about someone being fatally struck by a train at Newkirk Plaza the morning after Christmas. According to PIX 11, a man jumped onto the tracks along the B and Q line at the Flatbush station, though it wasn’t immediately clear why.
Early Sunday morning, the NYCT Subway Twitter accounted tweeted, “We’re sorry to report the people involved apparently entered the tracks between stations. We feel so terribly for the families and train crew involved. Please, please do not go down to the tracks for any reason, even if you don’t see a train coming. Please.”
