Noose found at Metropolitan Opera probed as possible hate crime

A white orchestra musician found a noose hanging from a pipe in a men’s locker room at the Metropolitan Opera, and police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

The male musician found the noose on Saturday night, according to the NY Daily News, just before the opera’s performance of “Turnadot.”

“We immediately called the NYPD, who began their investigation with the Met’s full support and cooperation,” the Met said following the incident.

Police now want to know if the incident was racially motivated.

“This is a very disturbing incident for the members of our company and, if it was a deliberate act of racial hate, we would like to find out as soon as possible to help guide our next steps,” said Met spokesman Tim McKeough, according to the Post.

NYPD told Patch that the noose was fashioned out of a bathrobe.
