The Wing takes its first flight in Brooklyn — and beyond

Since opening in 2016, The Wing has given thousands of women in New York City a space to commune, create and co-work — and now it has world domination on its horizon. Or at the very least (for now), its first Brooklyn location.

The Wing opened Monday in Dumbo in a former tape factory at 1 Main St. to join locations in Flatiron and SoHo. Expanding into Brooklyn was “a no-brainer for us,” Co-Founder and CEO Audrey Gelman said. “One-third of The Wing’s members call Brooklyn home, and it was consistently one of the most demanded locations.”

Like its predecessors, The Wing Dumbo will feature amenities such as a café and bar, beauty room, showers, phone booths and a Strand Bookstore-curated library full of female authors. But this newbie will also include a sunken living room, wellness room, vintage photo booth and podcast studio, which will allow members to record their own shows, practice public speaking or prep for auditions, Gelman said. Dumbo will also house The Wing’s first retail space that will be open to the public.

In a few weeks, The Wing will open its first non-New York City outpost in Washington, D.C., which “will allow us to welcome a whole new community of women to The Wing,” Gelman said. “We’re excited to invite the women making change and rewriting the rules of American politics into our space to share their mission with our existing members.”

With four locations in two years, Gelman has a lot to be excited about — but it’s the ensuing camaraderie and community The Wing has created for its members that thrills her the most.

“The Wing community is made up of so many wonderfully unique women that typically wouldn’t meet outside of these walls. That’s really the most exciting part for us — pairing all of these women together,” she shared. “It’s been amazing to see relationships form out of these introductions! We have members who have met and then gone on group trips, started new business ventures, have weekly potluck dinners and everything in between.”

The expansions to Brooklyn and Washington is just the beginning for The Wing.

“We have our sights set on the West Coast next, and then who knows?” Gelman said. “We’re ready for Wing world domination.”

The Wing Dumbo will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more info, visit the-wing.com.
