Philly raises $200K for Puerto Rican hurricane relief

Delegation from Philly will visit the storm-ravaged island next week.

Unidos PA’PR, a local coalition organized to respond and provide hurricane relief efforts to Puerto Rico, announced Tuesday that they are sending an additional $200,000 of relief funding to the storm-battered island.

Unidos PA’PR is a group uniting citizen activists, business leaders and elected officials. They will funnel the donations through local nonprofit Concilio, and they aim to focus on funding services that “will build support and manage resources to help stabilize life for the people of Puerto Rico.”

In addition to those on the island, more than 500 Puerto Ricans have sought shelter in Philly and received services from the city as they seek respite from the effects of Hurricane Maria.

Next week, the group will be sending members to Puerto Rico to take supplies and help to those in need.
