One Ottawa student hopes to change the world at the G20 summit on April 1 and 2 in London, England.

Lisgar Collegiate Institute student Sofia Hou, 17, will represent Canada as part of a group of 20 youth representatives from around the world.

Hou will meet G20 leaders to discuss the current financial crisis and its impact both globally and nationally.

Nominated by the British Council through their Global Changemakers initiative after she attended the Guilford Forum in January, Hou hopes the summit will allow her to be a voice for youth all over the country.

“I’m going to bring back views from all over the world as well as sort of a global perspective,” said Hou.

“Even (my friends) are giving me their views to bring as well.”

With a life-changing opportunity, however, comes a huge weight on her shoulders.

“As much as it’s an amazing experience, I’m representing the youth of Canada. It’s a huge responsibility,” she said.

Hou will graduate from Lisgar Collegiate this year and plans to pursue an education in finance, economics and international affairs. She leaves Saturday for London where she will spend four days with financial experts and policymakers to prepare for the summit.
