Locals de-stress at city hall yoga session

Morning stress melted away yesterday as would-be yogis stretched and breathed their way to relaxation in the city hall atrium.

Active Edmonton’s free yoga session over the noon hour attracted more than 20 participants and collected some much-needed food for the Edmonton Food Bank.

“Everyone is an athlete in the sport of life,” said Dot Laing, Active Edmonton’s program co-ordinator. “You’re in training for life.”

Active Edmonton is striving to make Edmonton the most active city in Canada.

They hold active events throughout the year and are a resource for health and fitness.

Laing decided to take advantage of a captive audience downtown yesterday to host the noon-hour yoga session. “It’s just to give people an opportunity to try on physical activity at noon in a no sweat kind of way,” Laing said.

She said she chose yoga because it’s a great way to move the body and stretch causing stress reduction.
