Locals get to scratch their itch at golf show

It may not be golf weather outside but it was all clubs and balls inside the Calgary Round-up Centre for the PGA of Alberta golf show this weekend.

Despite the snowy weather, avid golfers and their keen kids brushed off the cars and headed down to the everything-about-golf show, PGA of Alberta spokesperson Matt McWhirter said.

“It’s still been busy, especially (Saturday) but we’re hoping it gets a little bit busier,” he said yesterday, adding the golf season is actually still about a month away. “It’s the perfect time to have the show with people starting to get the golf itch.”

Besides golfers hoping to tee off soon, there were a lot of kids and juniors at the show, including seven-year-old future golf pro Curtis Hodgins, who was practising his swing at the Callaway driving range inside.

“I think he has a better swing than I do,” his dad, Daryn, joked. “He loves coming to these shows the past few years.”

About 4,000 people were expected to attend.
