Brave Britney Spears fans got down and danced for a contest yesterday to win tickets to her show at West Edmonton Mall.
Participants in the “Britney Dance-off” were taught a Britney-themed routine, then judged by a local troupe, the Fly Girlz Dance Crew. Contestants were evaluated on their skills, attitude and how much fun they were having. The final five contestants also performed a surprise lip-syncing routine.
The prize was a pair of VIP Gallery tickets to see Britney Spears live at Rexall Place tonight. The event also drew the attention of Britney Spears’ backup dancers, who were in the mall. They posed for photos with participants and even watched some of the routines, as well as a performance by the Fly Girlz Dance Crew.
Braiden Stevenson, a 22-year-old visiting from Saskatchewan and the only male contestant, danced away with the tickets. He got a text message about the contest and decided to put his 17 years of training on display in the mall.
“As a dancer, I love that I can dance to every single Britney song there is,” he said. “Even just going out clubbing, she has great beats and great energy.”
